Using the Power of Language to Improve Performance

Day:

Wednesday, September 27, 2023

Time:

GET 12:00pm
CET 10:00am
EDT 4:00am
MDT 2:00am
PDT 1:00am

Description:

To help you recognize how much your language influences your own and other people’s performance
Meanings are in people, not in words. Psychology forms a fundamental element of high performance and language is one of the most important, yet oft forgotten, drivers of performance psychology. Look inward to see how what you say to yourself affects your performance. Explore how you can foster performance growth by consciously using effective language (even when sharing bad news) and thinking about how other people interpret your words. Learn how to use the language of strengths, rather than the standard language of deficits, to increase engagement, commitment, and innovation. Discover the power of asking generative questions to release creative solutions.
Remote presentation aimed at all levels of practitioners.

Effect of online synchronous hybrid learning on new-hire employee performance

Day:

Wednesday, September 27, 2023

Time:

GET 13:45pm
CET 11:45am
EDT 5:45am
MDT 3:45am
PDT 2:45am

Description:

An aspect of learning that has greatly suffered due to Covid-19 lockdowns is teaching non-native English speaking (NNES) customer service representatives (CSR), who are required to communicate with native-English speaking customers (NES) over the telephone. Traditional training models include face-to-face classroom sessions, which were impossible to implement during the lockdowns. Therefore, assessing learning models that comply with synchronous hybrid learning environments was imperative to ensure unimpeded training if a catastrophic event, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, occurs again. Native-English computer-assisted pronunciation training (CAPT) software was used to supplement traditional trainers. This session will discuss the impact of the novel new-hire training program on NNES learners’ pronunciation and performance, as measured by their Customer Satisfaction (CSAT) scores.

Time:

GET 9:30am
CET 7:30am
EDT 1:30am
MDT 23:30pm
PDT 22:30pm

Description:

This session develops an understanding of how Performance Improvement Consulting plays a needed and relevant role in helping Gen Z navigate the Gig Economy considering the trauma in the world.  As consultants we can both respond to and impact the dynamics facing the world; dynamics created by many circumstances, including the new generation of workers (Gen Z, born 1997-2012), the emerging Gig economy, and the trauma across the globe.  We will show how to apply a systematic (standards 5-10) process in spirit with the four principles (standards 1-4).  There will be PowerPoint slides and interactive exercises so that participants can collaborate on the topics covered.  The topics will contribute to the Conference Theme “Performance Improvement in Turbulent and Transitionary Times.”

The Loneliness, Connectedness, and Mental Health Impacts on Worker, Work, and Workplace Performance

    Day:

    Thursday, September 28, 2023

    Time:

    GET 12:00pm
    CET 10:00am
    EDT 4:00am
    MDT 2:00am
    PDT 1:00am

    Description:

Session Goal/Objective:  The session aims to raise awareness of how improving connectedness can reduce the mental health and performance challenges attributed to loneliness. These applications to the work, worker, and workplace are transferrable to academic, industry, and government settings.

Session Description:  Human performance is dependent upon connectedness. Reports from the Loneliness and the Workplace 2020 report and Statista (2021) indicate that 61% of Americans classify as lonely, and a global average of 37% reported hardly ever or never feeling lonely. Workers want to feel like they belong amongst their peers. However, feelings of isolation and alienation in the workplace are attributed to cultural differences, learning disabilities, or online learning. Connectedness bridges retention and motivational gaps and helps build confidence and perception about belonging and contributing to the work and workplace. This session will discuss the impact and how to improve the performance of individuals who report loneliness and lack of connectedness.

The LeaPS ID Model: How to increase engagement and deliver results through inclusive design by expanding the partnership principle of HPI

    Day:

    Thursday, September 28, 2023

    Time:

    GET 15:45pm
    CET 13:45pm
    EDT 7:45am
    MDT 5:45am
    PDT 4:45am

    Description:

Promoting organizational cultures of belonging and equity is the challenge of the decade; upskilling emerging talent will challenge HRD leaders. Learning and development interventions must adapt and change. But, how?

Learn what’s needed to extend the partnership principle in HPI (Tosti, 2010). Join us to learn tried and true strategies for leading instructional design (ID) teams and practical partnership approaches to use immediately in ID projects. Given EMEA case scenarios, in this interactive presentation you will learn how to apply the two principles of our new LeaPS ID Model (i.e., inclusive design, performance-based learning and development) to build a scalable inclusive ID process and use inclusive design methods to create equitable interventions. Our discussion will also include ways to approach sustainable equity and inclusion in different cultural contexts in these times of transition. Everyone (i.e., emerging IDs through ID leaders) who is interested in fostering inclusion and equity is welcome.

Lean Performance Improvement:  A Simplified Way to Achieve Outstanding Performance

    Day:

    Friday, September 29, 2023

    Time:

    GET 9:30am
    CET 7:30am
    EDT 1:30am
    MDT 23:30pm
    PDT 22:30pm

    Description:

In the context of an increasingly competitive world, performance experts have made many attempts to develop performance improvement/ management models, systems, and programs that help workers achieve exceptional performance.

Thomas Gilbert developed the original Human Competence model, and there are many more with varying degrees of comprehensiveness. Most are generally behavioral & transactional in nature. There is a need for a more transformational model. It’s also important to have a simple, yet powerful model that is easy to apply.

This presentation provides an introduction and the opportunity to apply Cropper’s Lean Performance Improvement Model, which incorporates the best thinking of some of the world’s leading human performance experts. Participants will help create performance improvement plans and will receive a template to create performance improvement plans of their own.

The Impact of Culture on Workplace Performance:  A Global Mixed Methods Study

    Day:

    Friday, September 29, 2023

    Time:

    GET 12:00pm
    CET 10:00am
    EDT 4:00am
    MDT 2:00am
    PDT 1:00am

    Description:

Organizational culture is at the forefront of conversations among workforce development professionals. Worker performance is influenced positively and negatively by the organizational culture. A greater understanding of how culture influences worker performance can allow workforce development professionals to shape educational programs, evaluate cultural norms within the organization, and make recommendations for cultural change strategies. This research used quantitative and qualitative methodologies to investigate the impact on working professionals and account for workplace cultural differences. The research process included a comprehensive literature review and analysis.  This work also outlines the methodology utilized in studying and reviewing culture and performance. It used the CQ (Cultural Intelligence) inventory and the Individual Work Performance Questionnaire (IWPQ) to examine the relationships of culture with task performance and the identification of viable performance engineering strategies through interviews with Certified Performance Technologists (CPT) to increase the understanding of how to leverage culture with performance improvement strategies and tactics to aid organizations in achieving their mission. This research aimed to determine a better understanding of and increase the use of performance improvement and cultural models to assist organizations.
